TALES TOLD BY AN IDIOT
05 February - 05 March
Red Barn Gallery

'Tales Told by an Idiot' brings together three artists living in Wales whose narrative prints will definitely keep you guessing! On first glance the presence of toys, dogs, rabbits and horses give an impression of an innocent portrayal of nursery rhymes or fairy tales. But on closer inspection there are 'dark' undercurrents of the sinister side of the unconscious and nightmares. A surreal world opens up before your eyes as everyday objects are cleverly woven into the most mysterious of circumstances leaving the viewer unsettled by such absurdities as a carrot with a human head! Add to all that some Shakespeare, some mythology and some tall stories and you definitely have food for thought!

WAREHOUSE ON THE WASH

05 February - 05 March
Shakespeare Barn

Established in 1990 by graduates from Norwich School of Art and Design, the
Warehouse Artists Studios has become East Anglia's largest studio group.
Over thirty artists work with a wide range of methods and materials.

Alison Hall produces matrix arrays of fragmented landscapes in painted
layers. A landscape in flux, Sophie Marritt researches environmental
transformation, in particular coastal regions and climate change. Paintings
by Stephen Cross evoke gravitas from absence and a sense of loss in the
landscape, whilst Christine Allman's richly glazed paintings of folds present a
more spiritual landscape of the inner self. Also participating are Kevin Lee, who uses
recycled materials and will be working local flotsam and jetsam into collages, Imogen Bardwell who produces video and installations often on the theme of landscape and Lynda Williams who often uses photography as a starting point and manipulates images through the printing process.

(Alison Hall will be Visiting Artist at the Saturday Art Club on 12 February, Kevin Lee will be leading the 'What a Load of Junk' Family workshop on Saturday 19 February and Imogen Bardwell & Lynda Williams will be Visiting Artists at On Site on Sunday 20 February. See 'Workshops' for booking details.)

WORK-A-DAY
22 February - 05 March
Old Warehouse

College of West Anglia BA Fine Art Students (2nd Year)

This is an experimental exhibition opportunity for local students which showcases one artwork per day for 10 days in the atmospheric Old Warehouse Gallery. Every day there will be something different to see plus a full explanation by the artist of how the piece came about. You will also get the chance to have your say on the comments wall, where you are invited to tell them what you think! From wild and wacky to sober and thought-provoking, on the wall, off the wall or on the floor, there is no limit to what you might see, but don't forget you only get a WORK-A-DAY, so be sure not to miss one!
