By Shelagh Delaney, directed by Neil Sheppeck.
Shelagh Delaney was just nineteen when she wrote A Taste of Honey, first performed by Joan Littlewood’s Theatre Workshop in 1958, transferred to the West End in 1959 and filmed in 1961.
Jo’s relationships with her irresponsible mother, the Nigerian sailor who leaves her pregnant and the homosexual art student who moves in to take care of her while she waits for the baby to be born, are chronicled in Delaney’s play which has become a modern classic.
