CHIMANIMANI

CHIMANIMANI

Formed in Harare in 1995, Chimanimani embodies everything you would want from an African dance band. Expect up-beat, infectious rhythms, jangling guitar melodies and haunting vocals.

Well known on the festival circuit, this group have performed at festivals and venues across the UK including Glastonbury and the Africa Centre, Covent Garden. They have also performed in this country with many top Zimbabwean artists including Anna Mudeka. Fronted by Chanda Nyerazani on drums and vocals, Cecilia Agatha vocals and dance, Simwinji Zeko on guitars and vocals. For these dates they are also joined by UK bass guitarist Ed Bateman.

Chimanimani is the name of Zimbabwe’s sacred mountain along which winds a path so narrow, that in places it’s necessary to make a chimanimani (walk sideways). But no-one wants to walk to this band’s music!
